    Sewing Club: "Free Sew" Session

    Learn basic machine sewing, bring your own project or alteration, and get help from an experienced sewist!

    "Free Sew" Sessions, offered by the Friends of Silver Lake Library (FoSLL) Sewing Club, are unstructured, "office hour" style workshops where you can bring your own projects, ideas, or mends/alterations. Sewing machines will be available to use independently, or you can solicit help and tips from an experienced sewist.

    RSVP is not required for these sessions, but helps with capacity expectations and resource planning. Please reach out to fosllsewingclub@gmail.com with any questions.

    Teen Trivia Tournament

    Back to school week can be overwhelming, so we're hosting a trivia tournament to destress and have some fun!

    Compete for prizes by answering questions in categories like music, film, literature, geography, and more. Teens ages 11-19 (still in high school if 19) are welcome to join and will earn community service hours for participating if registered as a volunteer.

    Pizza and refreshments will be generously provided by the Friends of Silver Lake Library (FoSLL).

    AI Literacy Workshop

    Join us for an AI literacy workshop led by a Teen Volunteer! In this workshop, we will introduce the basics of artificial intelligence and explore its presence in our everyday lives. Participants will also learn to recognize AI-related scams and deepfakes, helping them stay safe online.

    Banned Books Celebration With Silver Lake Youth Reading Club

    Join us for an early celebration of Banned Books Week (October 4 to October 10, 2026) in a special collaboration with Silver Lake Youth Reading Club!

    Teens ages 11-19 (still in high school if 19) will get to hear from award-winning children's and young adult's author, journalist, and television screenwriter, Paula Yoo, who will discuss her work as an advocate against censorship as well as her experience writing about critical moments in American history and civil rights.

    This will be followed by a guided art activity where participants will get to pick a banned book of their choice that will be donated to a Free Little Library in areas most impacted by book bans. Each book will include an original art print inspired by the freedom to read.
