Description:
Join us online for Zine Club with guest Zine Maker Medar de la Cruz. Members of our group meet in a virtual space to co-work, chat, and share inspiration for whatever projects we're working on. Zine Club is based on gathering to create zines, sharing zines we like, zines we are working on, music to make zines, and much more. Bring pens, paper, scissors, glue sticks, magazines, and other supplies to make a zine.
Medar de la Cruz is a Dominican-American cartoonist and illustrator born in Miami, Florida, currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. Medar graduated with a degree in illustration from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, and has worked as a freelance illustrator for The New York Times and The New Yorker. Beyond the drawing board, Medar has worked on zines and has hosted zine workshops. Medar has also contributed part-time to the Outreach Department at the Brooklyn Public Library, providing book cart services to incarcerated individuals on Rikers Island. This experience motivated him to explore the role of journalism in his autobiographical comics.
