Description:

Discipline, Energy, Beauty, Strength: these are the watchwords of the D.E.B.S. (2004, PG-13), an all-female team of secret agents in this ahead-of-its-time lesbian spy spoof. Four D.E.B.S. in training, led by Amy Bradshaw (Sara Foster), are assigned to surveil notorious supervillain Lucy Diamond (Jordana Brewster). When Amy starts falling for Lucy, chaos ensues, and the agent's loyalty is put to the test. Filmmaker Angela Robinson started drawing the D.E.B.S. as a comic strip in college in the early 90s. With grant money, she turned her comic strip into an award-winning short film, which went on to become a studio feature with marquee stars. Though it wasn’t a blockbuster hit at the time, it is now hailed as an LGBTQIA cult classic. Robinson’s campy jokes riff everything from Charlie’s Angels to James Bond while centering lesbian characters in a PG-13 action comedy.
