Filipino American History Month
Remy Geaga (1916 – 1997) was a Filipina American community leader who advocated for the elderly and homeless. After immigrating to the United States from the Philippines in 1965, Geaga noticed inequities the Filipino community was experiencing.
Thirty years ago the Los Angeles Public Library embarked on a ground-breaking, collection-building project—reaching out to the diverse communities of the region for family photographs that would provide depth and nuance to an understanding of this region’s multi-cultural history.
Paul Krueger is a Filipino-American author and a lapsed Chicagoan who may now be found literally herding cats in Los Angeles.
Rin Chupeco has written obscure manuals for complicated computer programs, talked people out of their money at event shows, and done many other terrible things. She now writes about ghosts and fantastic worlds but is still sometimes mistaken for a revenant.
Erin Entrada Kelly, the author of the Newbery Award-winning book Hello Universe, spoke at the Central Library a few months ago as part of our Summer Author Series. Audience members wrote questions for Kelly on index cards.
