Books are bridges to other worlds and experiences, linking us to the rich tradition of the written word throughout the centuries. There is a unique place in the library that is not just books but iron. On the 3rd floor of the Los Angeles Central Library, one can walk across a bridge in the atrium that not only links the literature department together, but that also serves as a bridge of the literary world.

The Literature department is in the Tom Bradley wing of the Central Library. The bridge unites the two sides of the department and is visible from the first floor of the library. If one stands before the map and next to the escalators and looks toward the roof, it is there, behind the chandeliers. The bridge in the department lets one see the awesome architecture of the Central Library, from an elevated position in the center of the building. Around here, one can admire the chandeliers designed by Therman Statom from above. In addition, one can also see part of Grand Ave and the entrance of the Biltmore Hotel.

From its inception, the Central Library has been part of the history, culture, and daily life of the City of Los Angeles.

On the bridge itself, one will find tables and chairs to enjoy the view of the library and walk into the literary world.
