Join us for a fun family activity where we will learn how to make corn husk dolls! We will be using dried corn husks, yarn, and found objects to create a one-of-a-kind doll. Please bring any arts and crafts items you would like to add to your doll.
What is a corn husk doll? Corn husk dolls are traditionally associated with Native American tribes, who used corn husks not only as a material for crafting dolls but also for practical purposes like making baskets and mats. They were often made during the harvest season as a way to celebrate the corn crop and give thanks for the abundance of the maize harvest. The dolls were also used in storytelling and cultural ceremonies, symbolizing protection and a connection to the earth. Over time, corn husk dolls have become popular folk art and craft items, enjoyed by people of all ages for their simplicity and charm.
Making corn husk dolls is a fun and creative way to connect with traditional crafts and explore Indigenous cultural heritage.
