Description:
English writer Evelyn Waugh wrote The Loved One: An Anglo-American Tragedy following a 1947 trip to Hollywood. His diary entries for the trip describe many of the things he hated about Los Angeles—its food, his surroundings, and the residents' casual clothes. [You can check out more of what he hated about Los Angeles—a book of his diary entries is available at the library.]
One thing Waugh did love about his Southern California visit was a tour of the fantastical Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale. Wait until you read about it as the fictionalized Whispering Glades in his novel The Loved One. You can check out the book, e-book, or e-audiobook for free with your library card.
