Description:
In Elia Kazan’s classic 1951 film version of Tennessee Williams’ stage play, down-on-her-luck Blanche Dubois (Viven Leigh) takes A Streetcar Named Desire to hole up in the dilapidated French Quarter tenement where her sister Stella lives with her crude, angry husband Stanley Kowalski (Marlon Brando). Blanche is broke and needs a place to live, but her delusional Southern belle routine grates on Stanley, who is both repelled by and attracted to her. Forced to share close quarters, this trio of personalities becomes a recipe for simmering tension that threatens to explode into violence.
