Description:

After a slight misstep with her Marvel superhero entry Eternals, Chloe Zhao once again proves she’s one of the most talented directors of our time, with what many consider the most emotionally powerful film of recent years, Hamnet (2025, rated PG-13), based on Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel.

In late 16th-century England, Agnes, a healer in tune with the natural world around her, builds a home with William, a local tutor and aspiring playwright. As their lives fracture, they are tested by distance, silence, and grief. When their beloved son Hamnet dies young, it seems nothing can heal the pain – until William brings his new play about a melancholy young Danish prince dealing with the ghost of his father to the stage of the Globe Theater, with Agnes there to experience the opening performance.

Breaking hearts and mending them in one fell swoop, Hamnet speculates on the inspiration behind Shakespeare's masterpiece, with deeply moving work by lead actors Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal.
