Description:
"Coding: IRL" is an interactive workshop where teens will experiment with coding and connecting to physical hardware that they construct, requiring no apps, just their browser. Teens will design and build their own controller to enhance their success in a game they create in Scratch. They will be taught the basics of working with the materials as they build a physical structure from recycled materials and embed electrically conductive components into their creations. There will be a brief demo of Scratch, a browser-based app that allows students to code without typing. The brain of their creation is the Makey Makey, a USB controller that plugs into their laptop and turns everyday objects into keyboard inputs for their computer. Teens are required to bring in their own laptops.
