Description:

Join us on Zoom to discuss the Oscar-nominated film Sounder (1972).

Set in rural Louisiana during the Depression, Sounder tells the story of a sharecropper family struggling to overcome adversity. After stealing to feed his family, Nathan is sent to a prison camp. In their fight for survival, his wife and their eldest son hold the family together. Once the boy becomes an adult, he sets out in search of his father. The film was added to the United States National Film Registry in 2021. Directed by Martin Ritt and starring Paul Winfield and Cicely Tyson. (English, 1 hour 47 minutes)

LAPL cardholders can stream the film on Kanopy.
