Description:
Griffith Observatory astronomer Casey Cooper tells the story of the Harvard Computers, a historically overlooked group of women who laid the groundwork for modern astronomy by cataloging thousands of stars by hand. The program centers on their discoveries, lifelong friendships, and commitment to creating an accessible environment for their hard-of-hearing coworkers.
The program features an introduction to the ASL alphabet and a handful of astronomy-focused signs. Coloring and beading supplies will be provided as an optional listening aid, and participants are welcome to bring an ongoing craft or art project (crochet, embroidery, etc.) if desired.
This program is made possible by the LA Made Fund.
