Join us for for a full day of activities and performances to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Westwood Library. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Thor's Reptile Family
Time:
10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Enjoy an entertaining and educational show featuring arthropods, amphibians, and reptiles of all sizes! You will be taken on a safari around the world, learning about various aspects of the animals presented with an emphasis on who, how, and what their feeding habits are. Everyone will love this fascinating Library Safari.

LA Zine Fest Zine-Making Workshop
Time:
11 a.m. - 12 noon
In this workshop, LAZF will briefly discuss the history of zines and zine making, the diversity of zines, and the importance of zines and zine culture in today’s society. Workshop leaders will then lead participants in a detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to make a zine. By the end of the workshop, participants will have their very own 8-page zine. This workshop is geared toward participants ages 10 and up. Complimentary pizza and drinks will be provided.

UCLA Jade Lotus Lion Dance Troupe

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Meet Ketchup, Mustard, and Sriracha, three dancing lions! Join us for a 15-minute performance and a chance to learn about the Hok San lion dancing of Chinese and Vietnamese variations. Jade Lotus Lion Dance is UCLA's student-led lion dance team. With over 40 undergraduate students, this organization aims to share the art and culture of lion dancing with the Los Angeles community through performances and an emphasis on education.

Celebration Ceremony
Time:
12 noon -1 p.m.
Westwood Branch will host City Librarian John Szabo, the LAPL Book Bike, a mariachi band, and special presentations from dignitaries. After the talk, we'll sing happy birthday to the branch and enjoy a 20th anniversary cake, a historic photo exhibit, free gifts, and other surprises.

LAFD Fire Station 37
Time:
12:15 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Kids, teens, and parents can meet the brave firefighters from the Westwood Village local LAFD Fire Station 37. The trucks will be parked right outside the Westwood Library. You're welcome to climb on Hook and Ladder 37, Fire Engine 237, and try on a real firefighter helmet and jacket. Everyone can have their photo taken with our local heroes—plus, there are special firefighter-themed gifts for children while supplies last.

Yoder Brothers Piano Concert
Time:
2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
"Band of Brothers" Lucasz, Kasper, and Dominik Yoder, all current or former students at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, will play a special classical piano program of Romantic era composers. The brothers will perform individually and in a special "six-hands" piano performance. The Yoder brothers will pay homage to their Polish heritage by performing a classic Polish Highlander dance at the end of the program. A reception will follow the program for those in attendance. We'll also be celebrating the new arrival of a Yamaha C3 piano, donated by the many supporters of this programming series.
