Description:
Former Los Angeles City Councilman and Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky joins Marie Northrop Lecture Series Chair Michael Holland for an engaging conversation about his distinguished career in public service and his recent memoir, Zev’s Los Angeles: From Boyle Heights to the Halls of Power.
Over nearly four decades in public life, Yaroslavsky played a leading role in shaping Los Angeles County policy, with a focus on transportation, environmental issues, health care, and the arts. He was first elected in 1975 at age 26 to represent the 5th District on the Los Angeles City Council, and later served for 20 years on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
A Los Angeles native, Yaroslavsky earned both his BA and MA from UCLA. His bestselling memoir, published in 2023, offers a personal and political look at the evolution of the city he has long served. A book signing will follow the program in the Taper foyer.
The Marie Northrup Lecture Series is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles City Historical Society and the History & Genealogy Department of the Richard J. Riordan Central Library.
