Description:

The program starts with an exciting breaking, aka breakdance performance, followed by a brief history of the hip-hop culture and breaking, a new Olympic sport in 2024. The performer will introduce and show the various dance components in breaking (i.e., top rock, footwork, freezes, power moves) and how these dance components all come together. The audience will be able to participate in a hands-on learning experience followed by a group showcase to demonstrate the new dance moves.

The audience will learn about the positive message of hip-hop culture and new dance moves. The audience will hopefully take away from the lesson an interest in dance as a way of self-expression and a way to build confidence.

This LA Made program was made possible with the generous support of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
