Join us for a sneak peek of CommUnity Archives this summer at the Watts Branch! Come by and bring a few treasured heirlooms* you’d like to digitize with our archival scanner. Engage in a fun craft workshop while you wait for your scans. What do you remember about Watts from decades ago? Whose LA stories would you like to see preserved today? Check out the Oral History Backpacks at the Watts Branch and learn how you can tell your story and keep your memories safe for future generations.
- Community Room, 2pm: Mixed Media and CollageParticipants will be led through a brief overview of collage and its function in the history of art. They will also practice creating a balanced, well-composed mixed-media artwork they can take home. Audiences will discover the power of using found images to create something new and truly unique that invokes a theme and carries personal significance.
- Outside: CommUnity Archives Info StationGet your archives scanned and learn about LAPL's resources to help you continue preserving your memories.
*Our Epson Expression 13000XL scanner is 12.2 x 17.2 inches and compatible with documents, photographs, negatives (4x5, 35mm, medium format), 35mm slides.
