Join us for Fun Interactive Science Hour (FISH)!
FISH is a project that aims to improve access for all kids to ocean science literacy through hands-on experiments. Four (4) workshops will be hosted at the library, you can participate in all of them or individually.
Workshop 1: Think like a Marine Biologist - The ocean is full of many living organisms, from the biggest animal on the planet, the blue whale to the tiniest unicellular phytoplankton like cyanobacteria. You may be familiar with a blue whale, but not with phytoplankton or the very important role it has as a primary producer. Similar to plants on land, phytoplankton photosynthesize and absorb much of the carbon that enters the ocean. There are billions and billions of these phytoplankton cells all over our oceans and we will learn about a few of them!
Additional FISH workshops:
- April 13, 2026 Workshop 2: How Do Oceans Move
- April 20, 2026 Workshop 3: Coral Bleaching
- April 27, 2026 Workshop 4: Life Cycles
The FISH workshops are in collaboration with postdoctoral scientists at the University of Southern California and the Neighborhood Science Program at the Los Angeles Public Library.
