Description:

Zines are self-published books with a DIY ethos. They are accessible, low-cost, and historically a platform for marginalized voices. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn to create a mini zine using paper and scissors, with collage, drawing, or text. You can make your zine about anything you choose and take it home with you! Led by Chelsea Lenninger and Matthew Garrido, artists from the Tierra del Sol Studio Arts Program. Tierra del Sol champions inclusion and creative pathways to employment, education, and the arts for individuals with disabilities.

The workshop will be held at the Getty Gallery in conjunction with the exhibition, Looks Like a Home to Me: Inside the Progressive Art Studios. Looks Like a Home to Me celebrates the remarkable achievements of artists working in Progressive Art Studios in California and nationwide. By providing a supportive studio environment, these organizations have been advancing the inclusion of artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities in contemporary art for half a century. Over 80 artists working in various mediums, including works on paper, textiles, and video, offer a glimpse of some of the artwork being made in these extraordinary creative communities.
