Join us for Fun Interactive Science Hour (FISH)!
FISH is a project that aims to improve access for all kids to ocean science literacy through hands-on experiments.
Workshop 4: Life Cycles - All life on earth has different stages of development and different animals experience development in their own ways. For example, a baby caterpillar will form a cocoon then form into an adult butterfly. Frogs do something similar, where they are baby tadpoles then grow legs and form into adult frogs. As humans, we start off as babies then grow up to be kids, teenagers and eventually adults. Additionally, the environment we live in may affect our growth. What we eat, drink, how we sleep or even our exercise levels can all affect our growth. In this workshop we will focus on the life of a salmon. A salmon starts its life cycle in rivers and streams and eventually migrates to brackish waters as juveniles and spends its life as an adult in the ocean, only to come back to the river.
The FISH workshops are in collaboration with postdoctoral scientists at the University of Southern California and the Neighborhood Science Program at the Los Angeles Public Library.
