Description:

In 1933, Diego Rivera created a set of watercolors inspired by the Popol Vuh, a text in the form of an epic story that recounts the legends and history of the Quiché Maya people, from their beginnings until their first encounter with the Spaniards. Because of the narrative nature of the Popol Vuh, and the fact that Rivera believed that art should play a role in empowering working people to understand their histories, Diego Rivera: Coloring the Stories of the Maya Peoples is an easy to understand approach to the complex Mayan world. This presentation is given with a relevant repertoire of songs from Mexico and Central America, in Spanish, Mayan, and Nahuatl.
