Description:

We are excited to introduce a Children's Summer Math Club. Led by our inspiring Homework Helper, Miss Donna, the Summer Math Club will consist of five one-hour club meetings. At each meeting, children will be given a hands-on activity that targets 3rd to 5th-grade-level math skills. Through these fun and collaborative activities, we hope to highlight the wonderful way math is all around us!
All activities are independent of one another. Join us for one or all!

  • June 25: Build and fly a straw plane! From measuring the plane's circumference to finding out the mean, median, and mode of all of the flights, this activity will be sure to launch a new love for math.
  • July 2: Inspired by the work of Jasper Johns, children will create artwork that's dictated by mathematical patterns.
  • July 9: We'll start by creating two-dimensional concrete poems and treat ourselves to a three-dimensional model of some of our favorite figures using tiny marshmallows.
  • July 16: Using number cubes, children will be paired to create the highest or lowest number by rolling for each place value. Then, using a Mira geometry tool, children will create symmetrical drawings.
  • July 23: For our last meeting, children will map out algebraic word problems using different colored beans. Then, they'll create an art piece using tessellating shapes.
