ALEX: Hey! i'm Alex!

MITZY: And I'm Mitzy!

ALEX: We're from the Los Angeles Public Library Canoga Park branch, and today we're working with ConnectoPod.

MITZY: And for the What's Cooking Series, is the cultural and childhood comfort foods.

[Music]

ALEX: Hi could we ask you a question? Uhh, what's your name?

CHRIS: My name is Chris.

ALEX: Our first question is what's your comfort food?

CHRIS: I really like pasta, I guess Italian food.

ALEX: Is it specific to your culture?

CHRIS: No, not at all.

ALEX: Uhh, where does it come?

CHRIS: Italian food? [laughs] Italy?

MITZY: Hey what's your name, and what's your comfort food?

MARIA: My name is Maria, and my comfort food...would be... French fries!

MITZY: Why do you like them, or why is it your comfort food?

[Baby crying]

MARIA: I just like them I don't know...[laughs].

ALEX: Hi! What's your name, and what's your comfort food?

LAZ: I'm Laz Mimen, and I'd have to say my comfort food is mac and cheese.

ALEX: Why is that your favorite comfort food?

LAZ: Because it reminds me of being a little kid. It's like you know, just brings back good memories.

MITZY: Hi what's your name, and what's your favorite comfort food?

PAUL: My name is Paul, and my favorite comfort food is meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

MITZY: Can I ask why it is?

PAUL: Uhh, because I eat the meatloaf with the mashed potatoes and it's really yummy and uhh, just uhh, it reminds me of when I was a kid.

ALEX:Hi! What's your name and what's your favorite comfort food?

MARLEY: Ooh, my name is Marley, and my favorite comfort food is.. like... soup!

ALEX: Is there a specific type of soup that's your favorite?

MARLEY: Just like soup... and bread... just warm... and like, I can like, drink it, and eat... buttered bread with it. [laughs].

ALEX: Why? Does it remind you of good memories or...?

MARLEY: I just feel so comforted. It's like, I like that you don't have to chew soup... and you can just, like, drink it, and it's warm and... and, I also love bread, and so...yeah. [laughs].

MITZY: So, I'm gonna ask the question, what's your favorite.. what's your name and what's your favorite comfort food?

SAFWAN: My name is Safwan, and my comfort food would be rice.

MITZY: Can I ask why?

SAFWAN: Ever since I was a kid I grew up eating rice, and in my culture, it's like a common thing to eat rice... for three meals a day, ya know, so...

MITZY: Can I ask what's your culture?

SAFWAN: I grew up in an Asian culture, mostly South Asian.

ALEX: Hi can I ask a question? What's your name and what's your favorite comfort food?

ARAM: My name is Aram and my favorite comfort food... probably... have to be...eggs.

ALEX: How can I ask why eggs?

ARAM: Because I always have eggs around.

ALEX: Are our eggs significant in your culture?

ARAM: No. [laughs].

MITZY: Hey, what's your name and what's your favorite comfort food?

MAHEK: My name is Mahek, and I like...my favorite comfort food...is...ooh, I have to say noodles.

MITZY: Why noodles?

MAHEK: I don't know, it just reminds me... since it's warm... it reminds me of the winter, and in the winter I'm usually huddled up in my blanket, and it makes me feel very warm inside, and fuzzy.
