Candy Rainbow
Have fun watching a rainbow appear from colorful-chocolate covered candy. The science behind this experiment comes from the hard shell of the chocolate. The colorful shell is made with water soluble color—this means that when water touches the candy, the colors from the shell begin to dissolve off the candy and run into the water. Since the candy is placed in a circle around the plate, the colors have nowhere to go except to the middle of the plate and the rainbow appears!
Materials:
- Color coated chocolates
- Shallow plate
- Water
Instructions:
- Arrange candy in a large circle on the outside edge of the plate.
- Gently add water to the middle of the plate. Add just enough until the water is touching all of the candy.
- Then, watch what happens! A beautiful rainbow will form right before your eyes.
