Description:
Westwood Library is celebrating the LA BioBlitz Challenge with a special nature program for scientists aged 5-11.
Participants will engage in a hands-on demonstration about how to use a nature journal at the beach - from inside their local library. Each participant will receive a printed mini-journal and explore 20+ authentic artifacts (seashells and more) from California beaches as we learn how to document what we observe using all of our senses, drawing and writing. We will learn best practices that scientists use for recording animals in their studies, how to respect wildlife when we encounter it, and ways to help protect the ocean even when we aren’t at the beach. This demonstration will conclude with take-home information about how participants and their families can continue to engage in community science through nature journaling and local events.
