Join the Los Angeles Public Library for a weekly storytelling and informational series on maternal and family mental health. Special guests, Paulina Lopez and Bricia Lopez of the Super Mamás podcast will kick off the series which covers topics ranging from postpartum depression (and recognizing the symptoms) to the impact of racism on maternal health to understanding how to navigate paid leave.

This programming is made possible with the support of Maternal Mental Health NOW and a grant from the California Health Care Foundation.

Black Infants & Families Los Angeles - Doulas Program

The LA County Department of Public Health is leading an African American Infant and Mortality (AAIAM) Initiative to combat the disproportionately high rates of Black/African American infant and maternal deaths countywide. Doulas are part of the solution. Doulas are professional childbirth companions who provide physical comfort, emotional support, education, and advocacy to women and partners during pregnancy, childbirth and the newborn period.

UCLA Maternal Mental Health Program

The UCLA Maternal Mental Health Program at the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA has two types of treatment programs: the Partial Hospitalization Program and the Maternal Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program. Women can take part in these programs in their second and third trimesters of pregnancy through one year postpartum.

This is Maternal Mental Health NOW’s Emotional Wellness Self-Help Tool for helping those who want to become pregnant, are pregnant, and those who just welcomed a baby understand and manage perinatal depression and anxiety.

Los Angeles County Maternal Mental Health Directory

This resource lets individuals find help for mental health concerns during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Kaiser Permanente’s Postpartum Depression Resources

Kaiser Permanente has information on the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression as well as various treatment options.

Thriving While Black: Black Mamas Glowing Through COVID-19

This series is for pregnant and birthing people residing or working in Los Angeles County. Participants can register independently or with a support person. Mental health professionals are welcome as the support to the birthing person only. Each series of Thriving While Black consists of four meetings. All meeting times are from 5:30 - 6:30 pm and will take place on Zoom. Registration fees for October - December 2020 are covered thanks to the generous sponsorship of Moms Club Burbank.

Taking Care of Mama Support Groups

This is a virtual opportunity for pregnant and new moms to connect and gain support during these challenging times. All are welcome at no cost. Meetings are offered in English on Tuesdays October - December from 2-2:45 p.m. PT. Meetings are offered in Spanish on Tuesdays October - December 2020 from 1-1:45 p.m. PT.
