کتابخانه مرکزی، دفتر مرکزی کتابخانه عمومی لس‌آنجلس است که شامل ۷۲ کتابخانه شعبه‌ای می‌شود. این کتابخانه که سومین کتابخانه مرکزی بزرگ در کشور است، بخش‌های موضوعی آن شامل بیش از ۲.۸ میلیون کتاب، ۵۰۰۰ اشتراک مجله، بیش از ۳ میلیون عکس، ۱۰ میلیون حق ثبت اختراع دیجیتال ایالات متحده، به علاوه منابع یادگیری زبان و چندرسانه‌ای است. کتابخانه مرکزی دارای نه بخش موضوعی است که انواع خدمات مرجع را از طریق پیشخوان، تلفن، پست، ایمیل یا چت ارائه می‌دهد. مراجعین می‌توانند منابع را در سراسر شهر سفارش داده و به شعبه محلی امانت‌گیرنده ارسال کنند.

نمای کلی ساختمان کتابخانه مرکزی

کتابخانه مرکزی تاریخی در سال ۱۹۲۶ افتتاح شد و با تحسین منتقدان روبرو شد و نزدیک به یک قرن است که پذیرای اهالی آنجلینا جولی و بازدیدکنندگان است. این ساختمان که به عنوان یک گوهر معماری مورد ستایش قرار گرفته است، به خاطر ویژگی‌های نمادینی مانند هرم کاشی‌کاری شده روی سقف؛ ساختمان مدور وسیع و مزین به نقاشی‌های دیواری؛ و بخش آتریوم مدرن‌تر خود که در سال ۱۹۹۳ افتتاح شد، مشهور است.

این ساختمان دارای ۵۳۸۰۰۰ فوت مربع فضا در هشت طبقه، نزدیک به ۸۹ مایل قفسه و گنجایش بیش از ۱۴۰۰ نفر است. ۲۵۵ کامپیوتر عمومی رایگان در مرکز کامپیوتر و در سراسر ساختمان وجود دارد. دسترسی به اینترنت نیز از طریق وای فای فراهم است. دبیرستان LAUSD Downtown Magnets از کتابخانه مرکزی به عنوان کلاس درس استفاده می‌کند.
