প্রধান কেন্দ্রীয় গ্রন্থাগারটি হলো লস অ্যাঞ্জেলেস পাবলিক লাইব্রেরির সদর দপ্তর, যার অধীনে ৭২টি শাখা গ্রন্থাগার রয়েছে। দেশের তৃতীয় বৃহত্তম এই কেন্দ্রীয় গ্রন্থাগারের বিষয়ভিত্তিক বিভাগগুলিতে ২৮ লক্ষেরও বেশি বই, ৫,০০০ ম্যাগাজিনের সাবস্ক্রিপশন, ৩০ লক্ষেরও বেশি ছবি, ১ কোটি ডিজিটাল অ্যাক্সেস ইউএস পেটেন্ট, এবং ভাষা শিক্ষা ও মাল্টিমিডিয়া সামগ্রী রয়েছে। কেন্দ্রীয় গ্রন্থাগারের নয়টি বিষয়ভিত্তিক বিভাগ রয়েছে, যা কাউন্টারে, টেলিফোনে, ডাকে, ই-মেইলে বা চ্যাটের মাধ্যমে বিভিন্ন ধরনের রেফারেন্স পরিষেবা প্রদান করে। শহরের যেকোনো প্রান্ত থেকে পাঠকরা বইয়ের অর্ডার দিতে পারেন এবং তা ধারকারীর স্থানীয় শাখায় পাঠিয়ে দেওয়া হয়।

ঐতিহাসিক সেন্ট্রাল লাইব্রেরিটি ১৯২৬ সালে ব্যাপক প্রশংসার সাথে উদ্বোধন করা হয় এবং প্রায় এক শতাব্দী ধরে লস অ্যাঞ্জেলেসের বাসিন্দা ও দর্শনার্থীদের স্বাগত জানিয়ে আসছে। স্থাপত্যের এক রত্ন হিসেবে প্রশংসিত এই ভবনটি তার ছাদের টালিযুক্ত পিরামিড; বিশাল, ম্যুরাল-শোভিত রোতুন্দা; এবং ১৯৯৩ সালে চালু হওয়া এর আরও আধুনিক অ্যাট্রিয়াম উইং-এর মতো আইকনিক বৈশিষ্ট্যগুলির জন্য বিখ্যাত।
