The Opener Film Screening
About the Event
Please join us for a screening of the award-winning documentary film The Opener, starring singer/songwriter Philip Labes. During the pandemic, Philip was livestreaming a set on TikTok for about 15 people when a notification popped up that Grammy-winning recording artist Jason Mraz joined the stream. Philip quickly acknowledged Jason, then continued playing his songs. Jason stayed for the entire set, intrigued by what he was hearing. A few days later, he invited Philip to be the opening act for eight shows on Jason’s current tour. Suddenly, Philip went from playing for a dozen people online to playing for thousands in person.
Immediately after the screening, there will be a Q&A with Philip and filmmakers Jeff Toye and Sunya Mara, followed by a live musical performance by Philip.
