Film Screening: Vamps
Past Event
About the Event
Amy Heckerling followed up her classic 90s teen romp Clueless with the underrated Vamps (2012, rated PG-13), which is a bit like Interview with the Vampire meets Party Girl. Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter are vampire besties, Goody and Stacy, tucking into twin coffins at daybreak in their Manhattan apartment. They drink only mouse blood and attend Vampires Anonymous meetings. Both look young, but Goody conceals from Stacy that she was bitten back in the 19th century and is actually much older than her twentysomething friend. Stacy falls for a hot guy in her night school class who turns out to be the son of legendary vampire killer Van Helsing (Wallace Shawn). Goody meets her former beloved, who is now much older. When Stacy gets pregnant, Goody knows that the only solution is to kill their evil, controlling mistress Cisserus (Sigourney Weaver) and revert to their true ages—if only they can find her lair. Girly, snappy, and wisecracking, it’s the Halloween-themed Clueless II you didn’t know you needed.
