Libby is an innovative in-browser and mobile app from OverDrive designed to make borrowing and enjoying e-books, magazines, streaming services and audiobooks from the library easier than ever. Libby is available on your browser and for Android and iOS devices.
The OverDrive app was discontinued in May 2023. The OverDrive desktop interface is still available. You may continue to use this interface to browse and check out, place holds, and manage your account. Suggestions for purchase must now be made in Libby using the "Notify Me" function.

- ArtistWorks provides world-class instruction for the most popular string and band instruments through self-paced video lessons from professional musicians.
- LawDepot offers legal forms in minutes with high-quality, easy-to-use and completely customizable legal documents and templates.
- Universal Class brings libraries lifelong learning courses in over 30 subject areas, many of which offer continuing education units (CEUs).
- Craftsy is an online resource for all creative makers from basic instruction to advanced techniques for fabric and yarn crafts, baking, drawing and much more.
- Kanopy offers more than 30,000 films, including critically acclaimed movies, inspiring documentaries, award-winning foreign films and more.
Options to Access Libby
If you are unable to sign up for a library card in Libby using your phone number, please visit our Borrower Services page to learn more about signing up for a LAPL library card or e-card
If you do sign up for a library card using your phone number in Libby, you will be issued an OverDrive Instant Digital Card that is valid only for LAPL’s digital collection in Libby. These cards will expire after one year and cannot be renewed at this time. Before your card expires, you will receive a text stating:
- “Your OverDrive instant digital card expires on: MM-DD-YYYY.”
If your OverDrive Instant Digital Card is expiring or has expired and you have materials on hold or loan that you would like to maintain your access to, please follow these steps:
- Apply for a LAPL library card at your local library branch or sign up for an e-card. If you already have a LAPL library card and it’s added to Libby, skip to step 3.
- Add your new LAPL library card to Libby.
- Email cso@lapl.org with your mobile phone number and new library card number to transfer any current checkouts and holds on your Libby account.
- Remove your expired Instant Digital Card from Libby.
