About the Event

Join us for a free Protect the Pollinators workshop with expert and guest speaker from Water Replenishment District (WRD) and a guided walk led by urban ecologist Ryan Kinzel from the LA Department of Recreation & Parks (LA RAP).

The life of any garden is in the buzz, movement, and song brought by bees, birds, butterflies, and other pollinators. Learn how to make your landscape more welcoming to these important visitors while supporting local biodiversity.

During this workshop, we’ll explore:

  1. Key elements for creating a pollinator and bird oasis
  2. Pollinators and the plants that attract them
  3. The role of native plants in supporting wildlife
  4. Factors that threaten pollinator and bird health

Meeting Location:

  • Augustus F. Hawkins Nature Park – Community Center / 5790 Compton Ave / Los Angeles, CA 90011
  • Doors will open a few minutes early so you have time to get settled before we begin.

Before You Arrive:

What to Bring:

  • Please bring a hat, sunscreen, reusable water bottle, and comfortable, quick-dry clothing and shoes suitable for spending time outdoors.

You will walk away with a better understanding of how small changes in our landscapes can create healthier habitats for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife while contributing to a more biodiverse Los Angeles.

This event is part of LA Nature Quest program series presented in partnership by the Los Angeles Public Library’s Neighborhood Science Initiative, Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (Green Team), and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County’s Community Science Department, with generous support from the Library Foundation of Los Angeles.
