Feeling the Spirit of the Drum With Roberto "Kongakid" Gutierrez
Past Event
About the Event
Connect with your inner drumming spirit and connect with your fellow drummers in this hour and a half interactive drum circle. Learn about West African and Cuban drums such as the djembe, ashiko, and the conga, as well as a variety of percussion instruments. Learn basic patterns to complement your drumming team and share in the "spirit of the groove!"
Participants engaged in "Feeling the Spirit of the Drum" circle will be introduced to a fun and interactive program designed to build unity among the group. The hands-on activity will be geared toward developing and maintaining a cohesive "groove" by working as a percussive ensemble.
Prior to drumming, an ice-breaking activity titled "The Four Elements" begins the session. Each participant has the opportunity to share with the group which element (water, wind, thunder, or lightning) they feel like or are associated with. Corresponding instruments (rain stick, chimes, buffalo drum, and crash cymbal) are played, followed by a brief analogy of that element.
