Description:

Dedicated in July 1926, the Los Angeles Central Library became an instant architectural icon and guiding light of learning for the city. For this significant milestone, the Los Angeles Public Library is pleased to present Central 100, a year-long celebration that brings together residents from all corners of Los Angeles.

Join us to learn more about the coming year, tour the new Central 100 exhibits, and enjoy a reception at this kick-off event.

The event will also include an unveiling of the freshly unearthed time capsule that was placed in the building’s cornerstone during its original construction. In a private dedication ceremony in May 1925, the Board of Library Commissioners and then City Librarian Everett Perry filled a copper box with documents, photos, and publications that represented the Library along with other City departments at that pivotal moment. After one hundred years, the contents will be revealed and shared with the public for the first time.

The program will also be streamed live on YouTube.
