Training and Reporting
Reporting
All volunteers are required to complete their monthly Reporting and Reflection Logs in America Learns. Your Literacy Coordinator will set up your account to get you started. For a brief guide to America Learns, download our America Learns Volunteer Training Guide (PDF).
Adult Literacy Services requires volunteers to complete reports because:
- Volunteers need to take time to reflect and plan. Successful adult literacy volunteers regularly reflect on their most recent experiences, discover new information from those reflections, and use that information to plan their next sessions.
- Volunteers need to be learning constantly. America Learns gives you the ability to learn from other Los Angeles Adult Literacy volunteers, but also from other programs across the nation.
Adult Literacy staff need to understand your experiences to support and fund the program. The only way we can best serve you is if you let us know what’s happening in your relationship with your learners. Your reflections help us better support you in the field and enable us to secure funding for workbooks, materials for our collections, and programming to meet the needs of learners and volunteers.
Training for Volunteers
Launch the training! Volunteers are registered for online training after a being accepted by an Adult Literacy Center Coordinator. Online workshops are done on at your own pace over the two weeks you have to finish the workshop. You will be assigned a temporary username and password by the Online Training Manager. If you cannot complete the online training in time, please notify the Adult Literacy Office at literacy@lapl.org.
