Angel City Press Book Launch Party for Our Lady of the Angels With Author Sam Quinones and Gustavo Arellano

About the Event

Join us for the book launch party for Sam Quinones’ first book of photojournalism, Our Lady of the Angels: The Virgin of Guadalupe on the Walls of Los Angeles, from Angel City Press at Los Angeles Public Library. We are excited to have Gustavo Arellano, who wrote the introduction, discuss the book with Sam. On storefronts, alleyways, and street corners across the city, murals of the Virgin of Guadalupe grace the walls of Los Angeles in a tapestry of faith, identity, and culture. Our Lady of the Angels captures the sacred and everyday presence of Guadalupe murals across the city, offering a poignant lens into the cultural heartbeat of L.A. neighborhoods. Each image is a testament to community, artistry, and devotion—a visual pilgrimage through urban altars where spirituality meets street art. Whether you’re drawn to religious iconography, Latino culture, or the layered stories of L.A. itself, this collection invites you to see the city anew—through the lens of its most beloved saint.

Sam Quinones is a Los Angeles-based independent journalist who worked for 10 years in Mexico (1994-2004), where he wrote the first two of his four books of narrative nonfiction. In 2004, he returned to Los Angeles, where he worked for another 10 years as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times. Our Lady of the Angels is his first book of photojournalism.

Gustavo Arellano is the author of many books about Mexican-American and especially Los Angeles culture and food. He is a columnist for the Los Angeles Times and former editor of the OC Weekly.
