Story Structure & Scene Study With Ben Gross of the Poitier Film School

About the Event

In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of story structure and how it applies across film, television, and newer formats like vertical storytelling. No matter the medium, strong storytelling fundamentals carry through. We’ll also take a look at how scenes work—what makes them effective, and how to approach writing them. Participants will have a chance to try a short writing exercise and begin shaping their own scene.

Led by Ben Gross, a working filmmaker and instructor at ASU’s Sidney Poitier New American Film School in downtown Los Angeles with experience across narrative formats, this session offers a practical introduction to the building blocks of storytelling.

This program is intended for teens and tweens 11-18.
