Healthcare Information and Enrollment
Throughout the Medicare open enrollment period, we will host educational workshops and tabling events led by health programming facilitators from the Center for Health Care Rights that will cover health literacy and help you learn more about Medicare options.
Covered CA Tabling Events
There will also be a series of Covered CA Outreach and Enrollment tabling events with certified Covered CA enrollment counselors from D’Access Central, Inc. and USC’s Southern California Healthcare Outreach. The certified enrollment counselors will discuss and explain health coverage options and help individuals select the best plan to meet their medical needs and budget. They will also let individuals know if they qualify for low-cost or no-cost coverage through Medi-Cal or other services.
Important Open Enrollment Dates
- Medicare: October 15 - December 7, 2026
- Covered CA: November 1, 2026 - January 31, 2027
- Medi-Cal: Year-round
New Changes to Medi-Cal
Most Medi-Cal members will not see any change
As of January 1, 2026, some adults can no longer enroll in full-scope Medi-Cal coverage due to their immigration status.
Starting January 1, 2027, some adults will need to work, go to school, volunteer, or be in training to keep their Medi-Cal. Medi-Cal will send you a letter if this applies to you.
Starting January 1, 2027, some members will get their care through Fee-for-Service (FFS) Medi-Cal instead of a health plan. This changes how you get care, not whether you keep Medi-Cal.
Starting March 1, 2027, some Medi-Cal members will have their eligibility checked twice a year instead of once. This applies to adults, ages 19-64, who get Medi-Cal through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expansions, including those affected by the immigrant-related changes listed earlier.
New Changes to Covered California
- Most immigrants qualify for health insurance
- Effective January 1, 2027, only certain immigrant groups, like lawful permanent residents (green card holders), will be eligible for financial help to pay for their insurance. View the Covered California fact sheet for more information.
- Effective 2027, your financial help is based on the income you report on your application. If that information is inaccurate, you may receive more help than you qualify for, and may need to pay back the full amount you owe after 2026 taxes are filed.
- Effective 2028, you will need to prove you qualify for financial help before receiving it.
