About the Event

Slow down, look closely, and experience nature in a new way. Join LA Parks ecologists for a guided nature hike and hands-on journaling workshop at Augustus F. Hawkins Nature Park, presented in partnership with LA Recreation and Parks as part of the LA Nature Quest event series.

Participants will explore urban ecology while learning how to use drawing, writing, and observation to document the plants, wildlife, and other natural features around them. You will also learn how to submit a journal page to LAPL’s Nature Journaling Zine Contest.

Meeting Location: 

  • Augustus F. Hawkins Nature Park - 5790 Compton Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90011
  • Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.

Before You Come:

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Check the weather and dress accordingly.
  • Water in a reusable water bottle or tumbler.
  • Mosquito or insect repellent.
  • Art Supplies: Some supplies will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own.
  • Your phone with the iNaturalist app all set up and ready to go
  • Camera: Optional, for photographing observations or subjects for your nature journal.
