The LAPL Mixtape, On Wax
About the Event
Join us for ALOUD in Community: The LAPL Mixtape, On Wax, featuring Verse 3: Hip-Hop Cuts with Tyree Boyd-Pates and DJ R-Tistic. Eighty-five years after the Second Wave of the Great Migration, Black Angelenos have turned Los Angeles into a vibrant hub of musical innovation, spanning genres like gospel, jazz, and hip-hop. These sonic traditions, rooted in memory, migration, and cultural authorship, are celebrated in our community.
In collaboration with ALOUD and the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, the LAPL Mixtape, On Wax offers a series of genre-focused Stack Sessions. These vinyl listening experiences invite participants to gather among the stacks, share records, read liner notes, and dive deep into how Black Southern sound traditions have influenced Los Angeles and shaped our nation’s cultural landscape.
Please note that this event is for ages 18 and older.
