Check out The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai and join the discussion.

The Great Believers follows two interconnected stories. In 1985 Chicago, Yale Tishman's promising career at an art gallery is overshadowed by the AIDS epidemic as he watches many of his friends become ill and die, leaving him increasingly isolated except for his close friend Fiona. Thirty years later, Fiona travels to Paris to search for her estranged daughter and reflects on how the AIDS crisis shaped her life and relationships. The novel explores loss, grief, resilience, and the lasting impact of tragedy across generations.
