StoryWalks®

Explore the world, move your body, and read a story at the same time! StoryWalks® are a fun and innovative way to engage young readers and encourage activities that build early literacy skills like talking, reading, singing, writing, and playing.

Find a StoryWalk® near you and follow the pages of a children’s book placed on signs along a trail or path. After your visit, share your StoryWalk® experience on social media with the hashtag #StoryWalkLAPL. StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont.

If you have any questions or would like to partner with the library to have a StoryWalk of your own

Get Ready For Kindergarten

The skills that children learn at an early age (0-5) can be predictors of future success in life. Our Get Ready for Kindergarten series is meant for parents and children who aren’t yet in school. These virtual and in-person sessions include fun activities for families to do together that will build skills children will use throughout their school careers. We also provide parents and caregivers with useful tips and ideas for activities to do at home.

We encourage families to read 1000 books before children begin kindergarten.

Track your progress and print out your certificate here.

Read from the Start

Quality Start LA has teamed up with the Los Angeles Public Library to bring you "Read from the Start."

Each month, we will work together to develop a themed booklist, reading tips, and family activities, all designed for families with children ages birth to five.
