Oral History as a Companion to Genealogy
About the Event
Learn about how oral history and genealogy can join forces to preserve your family histories. In this two-hour workshop, you will learn where to begin with genealogical research, the basics of recording oral history interviews, and experience how these two methods of personal archiving combined can result in powerful storytelling.
To participate in an oral history interview practice exercise, bring a photograph, family tree, or any meaningful object to the workshop. If something is especially precious, we encourage you to bring a copy or surrogate to prevent damage or loss.
The Los Angeles Public Library offers this program as part of a month-long series centering personal archiving, presented by Community: Your Archive, Your Legacy, an initiative supported by the Library Foundation of Los Angeles and funded by the Mellon Foundation.
