LA Made: Dia de los Muertos Papel Picado Workshop

About the Event

Papel picado is the traditional art of cutting elaborate designs from delicate tissue paper. Papel picado is used for a variety of celebrations in addition to Dia de los Muertos. Calaveras, skeletons, candles, marigolds, names of loved ones, and cultural and religious icons are typically present in papel picado made for Dia de los Muertos.

Founded in 1970 in the heart of East Los Angeles, Self Help Graphics & Art is dedicated to the production, interpretation, and distribution of prints and other art media by Chicana/o and Latina/o artists. Our multidisciplinary and intergenerational programs promote artistic excellence and empower our community by providing access to spaces, tools, training, and capital.

This program is made possible by the LA Made Fund.

For disability-related accommodations, please call (213) 228-7430 at least five business days prior to the event. The City will make every effort to accommodate requests received with less notice.
