Learn to Grow Your Own Food

About the Event

Los Angeles is an amazing climate that allows us to grow everything form tropical fruits like bananas and melons to cold weather crops like beets and brussels sprouts. It is this amazing year round growing season that can make producing your food such a fun and rewarding process!

Whether you are a first time gardener or a seasoned green thumb, join urban farmer and educator Elliott Kuhn (Cottonwood Urban Farm) for an in-depth presentation on how you can start your own journey from seed to table. Organic gardening basics will be covered which address soil and site preparation, container gardening, seed starting and other propagation methods, seasonal planting and harvesting, integrated pest management, succession planting for extended harvest, fruit trees and orchard considerations, irrigation, and the importance of pollinators.

Participants will be treated to fresh produce samples and have the ability to take select seeds home to start their own garden projects. A comprehensive resource guide will be provided which will compliment the PowerPoint presentation and discussion.

For disability-related accommodations, please call (213) 228-7430 at least five business days prior to the event.
