El portal de noticias MarketWatch informó el 20 de mayo, Día Nacional del Perro Rescatado, que las adopciones de mascotas habían experimentado un aumento durante los recientes confinamientos nacionales, ya que las personas buscaban compañía, distraerse de las noticias y encontrar un propósito, entre otras razones. Se informa que, si bien existía la preocupación de que la pandemia saturara los refugios con el abandono de perros, ha ocurrido lo contrario, con un aumento repentino de las adopciones y las familias de acogida. Muchas personas han declarado que, de todos modos, pasarán mucho tiempo en casa.
