About the Event
For this month's Good Trouble Reading Group, we'll be discussing a selection from The Gastronomical Me, M.F.K. Fisher's memoir of the travels that set her on the path to becoming one of the greatest modern food writers. In 1929, when newly married Fisher and her husband journeyed through France and farther afield, a whole world of novel flavors and experiences opened up to her. Her account of the meals she shared and the eccentric characters she met along the way unfolds against the backdrop of mounting pre-war tensions and her own growing awareness of how food would soon become her life’s work. In these profound, deeply observed reports from her first forays into the world, Fisher created a foundational story of travel, food, and self-discovery that still influences and inspires readers and writers today.
