Library Social Story for Children
We are going to the library! Let’s get ready for our trip together.
Many people think of the library as a big building with lots of books, and that is true, but there is really so much more to learn about the library.
Lots of people use the library for lots of different reasons.
Some people visit the library to check out books, movies, or other items. Some people visit the library to study or work on a computer.
Some people visit the library to go to programs or do activities. Some people visit the library to get out of the heat or rain, or for a place to rest and use the bathroom.
It is important for everyone who visits the library to respect the library and everyone in the library.
Here are some ways we can do that…
Use a quiet voice
Walk or move slowly
Be gentle with books and other materials
Some items in the library can be checked out with a library card to take home, but others need to stay at the library.
If you are not sure if an item can be checked out, a library worker can tell you.
There are many people who work at the library who can help us or answer questions. Library workers always wear an ID badge, and you can usually find them sitting at the desk or walking around in the library.
