Lighting the Stacks - A Central Library Historical Drama & Living History Museum

About the Event

LAPL meets LAUSD in a crossover to end our Central 100 celebration with a glimpse of the past from the voices of the future. Students from 5 LAUSD schools perform a new drama telling the story of Central Library and the figures that made the icon what it is—and ask what the future may hold. Both a traditional theatrical experience and a living museum stationed throughout Central Library.

Central 100 Living Museum

Immerse yourself in a Central 100 "Living Museum" throughout the building, hosted by the students of LAUSD's Young Oak Kim Academy in Koreatown. They will be portraying historical figures who tell the story of how a small reading room above a saloon became one of the most important, cutting-edge, and forward-facing libraries on the planet.

Lighting the Stacks - A Central Library Historical Drama

Written by Emmy Award-nominated, New York Times bestselling author Joshua Hale Fialkov, Lighting the Stacks is a "Behind the Library" docudrama that gives insight into the founding of the library system, the fight to build a central library, the bigger fight to save it after the fire, and the questions of just what the future may hold.

  • 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Mark Taper Auditorium
  • All Ages
