The Prestige by Christopher Priest is about two magicians, Robert Angier and Alfred Borden, in the 1800s. They are always fighting each other or sabotaging each other's magic shows to make people come to their own shows instead. Robert starts to get more popular with a new magic trick, and Alfred cannot solve how Robert does it. Alfred gets more invested in deciphering Robert's trick, causing his own and Robert's downfall.

The Prestige is one of the most confusing books I have ever read, but it is a good kind of confusing. This book just plays with you with all of its weirdness. It is supposed to make you get lost. The only reason I read The Prestige is I fell in love with the movie. (I might do a review of the movie, too, because the book and the movie are so different!)

I personally loved The Prestige. I loved how Christopher Priest wrote it! You are reading both of the magicians' personal journals. At times you want to scream at the two main characters because you know more than they do, and you want to stop them from making an error. However, this book also shows you how damaging an obsession can be. I would definitely recommend this book. It is just so good! If you are into magic tricks like me, you are going to love this book because what these magicians do at all of their performances is genius!
