Description:
Join us as we host two workshops of the Restless Books Immigrant Writing Workshop, once in October and again in November. As part of the Library Innovation Lab "Belonging" series and taught by Restless Books Publisher Ilan Stavans, these workshops aim to help immigrant communities develop their voices, self-confidence, and self-esteem.
The workshops allow participants in a small group setting to both practice literacy and speaking skills and deepen their connection with their local community. Although the workshops are conducted in English, participants are encouraged to play with language in their writing and can write nonfiction, fiction, or poetry.
Participants may pick up a free copy of And We Came Outside and Saw the Stars Again: Writers from Around the World on the Covid-19 Pandemic, and will be asked to read selections for the class. Participants will also receive a copy of an anthology we create from the writings produced in the workshop.

This program is part of the 2020 Library Innovation Lab, which explores new ways of engaging immigrant communities through humanities programming. This project was made possible with support from California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (www.calhum.org).
